Comparison of two articles related to bee deaths

My first article called Are GM Crops Killing Bees? by Gunther Latsch agrees with the point that the article called Keeping Bees Among Us by Verlyn Klinkenborg (newyorktimes) makes and that is that bees are in trouble. They both point out that something is seriously wrong and if something isn't done our food sources could quickly diminish. However my first article suggests that the bee population may be suffering from being in contact with genetically modified plants while my second article believes bees are dying, not of outside forces, but internal ones, the condition CCD or colony collapse disorder.
The first articles mentions several people who sit on various organizations and their views and opinions on the matter. The second article simply states the author's own experiences from her past. Clearly both articles have identified the problem, but view differently on the source of the problem.

An article on the deaths of bees

“…Farmers often lease colonies of bees to ensure pollination.
Yet honeybees, which pollinate more than 90 commercially grown crops, are one of the most affected pollinators. Indeed, honeybees had to be imported from outside North America last year for the first time since 1922, the report said.
The report urged the Agriculture Department to increase research into pest management and bee breeding practices.
In addition, long-term studies must be done on the populations of wild bee species and some butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, it said.
The United States should collaborate with Canada and Mexico to form a network of long-term monitoring projects, the council recommended.
Landowners, meanwhile, can take simple steps to make habitats more "pollinator friendly," for instance by growing native plants, the report suggested…”

Summary: Passage based focused freewriting
Honeybees, known to be one of the best pollinators of crops, are under several environment strains and in big trouble. For the first time in several decades the US could no longer rely on its own supply bees, but instead they had to import them from other countries. One way to help these invaluable honeybees is to help the surroundings in which they live in hopes of increasing the population. One way is to plant certain plants common to the area. In a more broad approach, it is recommended by the council that the US, along with Canada and Mexico, should worked together to oversee the problem and its long-term progression.

Pitch: This piece wants me to believe that there is a major problem with the declining populations of honeybees and several things need to be done in order to save them before it’s too late.

Complaint: The death rates of bees are increasing dramatically and there may be nothing we can do about it.

Moment: In the past, there was never a problem with the bees, but now they are suffering and dying in large numbers and it may be too late to save them all.

Major

I don't have a major yet, but I'm thinking of biology. I am interested in researching topics involving genetic mutations or diseases. I am open to ideas since I don't know everything in the realm of biology.
